The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme was originally trialled in November 2017, with a handful of UK regions given the opportunity to apply for government subsidised gigabit connectivity.

Off the heels of the pilot, where 1,000 vouchers were issued, the national rollout gives your business access to the gold standard of connectivity, gigabit, and is a solid step towards erasing slow broadband for SMEs.

In the gigabit scheme's trial WarwickNet were a leading provider having delivered 67% of vouchers in the Coventry and Warwickshire region, recognising the scheme as a solution to helping UK business to receive the ultrafast broadband connectivity which is vital to competing in the global economy.

With the expansion into a national scheme, and many more vouchers now on offer, businesses around the UK will benefit from our rapid deployment of full-fibre connections and hands-on customer support.

As WarwickNet invests in its own high-speed infrastructure, we’re not beholden to seeking permission from Openreach, meaning we're empowered to deliver the connectivity your business needs.

During the gigabit scheme’s initial trial, WarwickNet helped businesses to digitally transform. Voucher recipients upgraded their infrastructures to receive full fibre to their offices, opening up a world of possibilities, like moving to the cloud with Microsoft Office 365. With the scheme going nationwide, your business can join them too!

As we join the government in pledging ‘full fibre’ gigabit-capable broadband to businesses like yours, below you’ll find a guide to what you need to know about the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, including eligibility, benefits, and the easy steps for applying.

How to find out if your business is eligible for gigabit connectivity through the scheme

Can my business apply for the voucher?

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme is for small and medium size businesses across the UK. More information about the formal definition of a SME can be found here.

In summary an SME:

  • Has up to 249 Employees
  • A balance sheet of less than €43 million or a turnover of less than €50 million

You must not have received more than the permitted amount of de minimis aid in the last 3 years. There’s more guidance on this on the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme website.

What do you need to be mindful of?

Vouchers help support the capital costs of delivering a new gigabit capable connection to your business premises.

If you already have a gigabit capable connection you are not eligible for a voucher.

Your new connection must have a minimum speed of 100 Mbit/s and represent at least a doubling of speed compared to the service you have now.

When does the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme start?

The Gigabit Voucher Scheme launched 27 March 2018,  and is the next step in improving businesses' access to higher quality broadband.

The DCMS will stop issuing vouchers when all available funding has been allocated or by March 2021 – whichever is sooner.

How much can my business receive through the scheme?

Business vouchers are worth between £500 and £3,000 before the 25 November 2018. As of the 26 November 2018, this will reduce to a maximum of £2,500

If your new connection costs less than £500, you will not be able to claim a voucher.

If the cost of providing a connection is more than £3,000 then you can “top up”. DCMS cannot pay any VAT or monthly charges.

Please also note that WarwickNet terms and conditions apply. We reserve the right to remove this offer at any time.

Other conditions apply – see the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme website for full details.
