Businesses access gigabit-capable speeds with the national launch of Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

SMEs across the nation can benefit from access to gigabit-capable speeds with the roll out of the government's national Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

Last week the government announced its plans to secure gigabit-capable broadband for businesses across the nation. As part of the scheme the Department for Culture, Media and Sport will pledge a pot worth £67 million to develop the UK’s digital infrastructure into one that can compete in the modern global economy.

The scheme, announced as part of the government’s Spring Statement 2018, helps small to medium sized businesses pay for the cost of gigabit-capable, fibre to the home (FTTH) services.

For businesses, gigabit-capability means unparalleled speed, reliability and a world of possibilities for IT teams as they look towards the future, likely beginning with migrations to cloud-based solutions.

WarwickNet, a leading provider of next generation broadband solutions, has welcomed the national roll-out of the government-backed Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

During its trial period in November 2017, WarwickNet distributed a large number of vouchers, worth up to £3000, to local businesses in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Speaking of the scheme, James Warner, Director of Sales and Marketing at WarwickNet said:

“Our strong partnerships with customers and detailed knowledge of their infrastructure and business needs puts us in an ideal place to promote the value of this scheme to both them and businesses generally.”

One such customer is locally-based stationary business Nuco International, one of the first companies in the UK to benefit from free installation of a gigabit-capable connection by WarwickNet.

The company, which also has an office in Hong Kong, took advantage of the scheme as they prepared to transition systems to the cloud and sought faster download and upload speeds.

“We were already keen on upgrading our infrastructure to full-fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP), but the Gigabit Voucher Scheme made it a much more cost-effective solution,” said Mark Langan, IT and Project Manager. “We’re now getting three times the speed for no extra cost.”

The scheme is open until March 2021 or until all available funding has been allocated.

With the success of the pilot Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, and investment in our own infrastructure to support the need for the gold standard of connectivity, we’re committed to full-fibre provision, and welcome the opportunity to help businesses receive the internet they need to thrive.

With the gigabit scheme’s go-live, we’ve put together a knowledge hub to help UK businesses get to grips with all things gigabit connectivity.
